Chunati Wildlife Sanctuary Chittagong

Chunati Wildlife Sanctuary, located along the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway at Chunati in Lohagara Upazila, about 70 km from Chittagong district city, is an important repository of Asian elephant breeding and South East subcontinental biodiversity. Chunti Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1986 covering about 19,177 acres (7,764 ha) of forest land in Satkania, Chakaria, Banshkhali and Lohagara regions.

Apart from elephant, monkey, wild boar, sambar, Hanuman, Maya deer, other animals in this Chunati sanctuary include 4 species of amphibians, 7 species of reptiles, 19 species of mammals, 53 species of birds and a vast forest of about 107 species of trees. Lohagara Chunti Wildlife Sanctuary area has natural roaring forest, forest pond, Gyalmara natural lake, Jangalia foot trail, forest pond foot trail, roundhouse, observation tower, nature conservation center, research center, ecocortage, student dormitory and 8 trained tour guides. From the observation tower, one can enjoy the magnificent natural beauty of the sanctuary and the free roaming of the forest animals.

From Dhaka's Kamalapur, Fakirapool or Syedabad bus terminals, take AC and non-AC buses of Saudia, S Alam's Mercedes Benz, Green Line, Hanif Enterprise, Shyamoli Paribahan, Sohag etc. bound for Cox's Bazar and alight at Lohagara Bazar bus stop. Chunti Wildlife Sanctuary is about 10 km away from Lohagara market by local transport. If you want, you can go to Chunati Sanctuary from Dhaka via Chittagong. In that case, you have to take a bus going to Cox's Bazar from Bahaddarhat and Oxygen intersection of Chittagong city and get down at Lohagara.
