Digha Sea Beach India

Digha is a popular beach located in East Medinipur district of West Bengal, India. The distance from Calcutta city to Digha beach is only 187 km. The 7 km stretch of beach, Jhowban and unique nature enthralls the tourists who come to Digha. Digha has two beaches, one called Old Digha Sea Beach and the other known as New Digha Sea Beach. Although Old Digha is the most visited tourist destination, Digha is famous among the people of West Bengal for taking a dip in the sea water.

For bathing in the sea, the wide beach of New Digha is more suitable, but bathing is possible in a certain part of Old Digha. Old Digha beach is a bit dangerous for bathing due to boulders in other parts of the beach.

Apart from Digha Beach, you can visit Amaravati Lake, The Marine Aquarium and Research Center, Snake Garden, Science Park, Digha Science Center etc. Also, Udaipur beach of Odisha is just 4 km away from Digha and Chandaneshwar Temple of Odisha is 6 km away.

It takes about 3 and a half hours to reach New Digha railway station by train from Kolkata.

Kolkata Howrah to Digha Train Schedule: 12857 Tamralipta Express departs daily at 6:35 AM. 15722 Paharia Express (Saturday only) leaves at 7:50 AM. 12847 Super AC Express departs daily at 11:10 AM. 22897 Kandari Express departs daily at 2:15 PM.

Buses leave for Old Digha at regular intervals from Laketown, Dharmatala, Ultodanga, Karunamayi, Garia etc. in Kolkata. Also long distance buses ply from all major cities of West Bengal like Asansol, Durgapur, Burdwan, Medinipur, Haldia.

Dighat has several government private lodges, residential hotels and holiday homes for overnight stay. Among them, Tourist Lodge of West Bengal Tourism, Beach House of Digha Development Scheme, Hotel Meenakshi of Benfish, Kalyan Kuti Rest House are notable.

There are sea facing hotels in Old Digha but there are no sea facing hotels in New Digha. You can stay overnight at Hotel Jairam Hi-Tide or Hotel Amrita in New Digha.

Hotel Sea Hawk, Hotel Blue View, Hotel SeaGull, Hotel Saikatabas are notable among the sea-facing hotels in Old Digha.

When it comes to food, Bengalis have a lot of food, so you can eat all kinds of food you like, starting from fish, Chinese, Mughlai, Thai, Italian. In addition, there are various fish fry shops near the beach!
