Shrine Of Bayazid Bostami

Shrine of Bayazid Bostami, the famous Persian Sufi of Iran, is located on the hill of Nasirabad, Chittagong. In 1831 the tomb was discovered within a walled courtyard at the top of the hill. The construction style of the tomb suggests that it was built during the reign of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. The Sufi saints of that time used to choose secluded mountains or forested places to preach Islam and established shrines or various religious establishments in these places. Legend has it that Bayezid Bostami, upon leaving Chittagong at the end of his tour, cut his little finger with a few drops of blood to mark the place where the shrine would be built. Bayezid Bostami Shrine is a replica originally built dedicated to Bayezid Bostami. The shrine of Bayezid Bostami was renovated and modernized at different times.

At the foot of Bayezid Bostami's shrine hill is a three-domed rectangular mosque built in Mughal style and a vast lake. And the Dighi has Bayezid Bostami's famous turtles and gaja fish. Bostami's tortoise species is very rare and endangered species in the world. Bayezid Bostami's shrine pond is currently estimated to hold between 200 and 350 turtles. Every year numerous visitors irrespective of caste and religion come to visit the shrine of Bayezid Bostami.

Bayezid Bostami shrine can be reached by taxi, CNG auto rickshaw or bus from anywhere in Chittagong city.

Dhaka to Chittagong Chittagong can be reached from Dhaka by road, rail and air. From Syedabad Bus Terminal in Dhaka, Saudia, Unique, TR Travels, Green Line, Hanif Enterprise, Shyamoli, Sohag, S. AC-Non AC buses of various transports like Alam, Modern Line etc leave for Chittagong. Depending on the class, the bus fares range from Tk 650 to Tk 2000 per seat.

If you want to travel to Chittagong by train from Dhaka, you can travel by Tourist Express, Cox's Bazar Express, Sonar Bangla, Suborn Express, Turna-Nishitha, Mahanagar Prabhati/Godhuli, Chittagong Mail from Kamalapur or Airport Railway Station. Train fare will be 340 to 1398 taka depending on the class. Besides, several airlines operate direct flights to Chittagong from Dhaka.
